After taking off from LaGuardia Airport in Queens, U.S. Airways Flight 1549 experienced engine failure after being struck by a flight of birds.

Remarkably, Captain Chesley Sullenberger managed to bring the plane down safely in the Hudson River. Everyone on board escaped without serious injury and Sullenberger was hailed as a hero.
