On July 03, 1986 America celebrated the Statue of Liberty’s centennial and the completion of her restoration. She was officially unveiled in a special ceremony on the evening of July 03, 1986. Video below reflects this special moment in time:
United States President Ronald Reagan and French President François Mitterand lead the festivities as Lady Liberty’s new torch keeps on enlightening the planet.
One of the more distinctive restorations was the light of her torch. The flame was replaced with a new one molded in copper and covered in 24-karat gold leaf:
“Liberty Enlightening the World,” as she is officially known, continues to inspire and illuminate. A visit to this moment is simply uplifting.
